There are many tourist attractions in the Charente Maritime in easy driving distance. These include:
Futuroscope: Futuroscope is Frances' premier theme park. There are 18 "zones" to visit, categorised into fantasy, discovery, pleasure and excitement.
The valley of the monkeys: Monkey Valley was created as the Preserve for the Protection of Primates in 1998, to participate in preserving the monkeys and their habitat. It is over 37 acres large and host 30 species and more than 350 gorillas and monkeys.
Steam train excursions: A steam train runs between La Tremblade and Saujon. There is also Le-P'tit Train de St Trojan running from the station of St-Trojan to the south of the island of Oléron, on a 12km-round trip and Le Petit Train Du Chateau D'oleron around the historical capital of the island.
The Paleosite: The Paleosite is an 'interactive' attraction looking into the origin of man.
The Grottes de Matata: The Grottes de Matata are situated along the limestone cliffs of Meschers sur Gironde. The estuarine caves at Matata, hollowed out by the movement of the estuary 35 million years ago, have always been inhabited by man. There is a museum in the caves.
